Oscar De La Hoya calls for Super Bowl of boxing

Oscar De La Hoya is looking to make the big fights in boxing.

De La Hoya, who is the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, is eyeing Las Vegas' newest venue The Sphere as a possible site.

De La Hoya, who promotes super lightweight Ryan Garcia is eager for what is ahead. Yet, first is Oscar Duarte, a big puncher, who Garcia fights on December 2nd in Houston, Texas. If Garcia can get by Duarte it is pretty clear De La Hoya has big plans for him.

"I was at the Sphere opening and I can not tell you how [expletive] amazing it is," said De La Hoya via his Instagram. "Imagine Super Bowl weekend, the Super Bowl of boxing. Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez or even [ the winner of Devin Haney versus Regis Prograis]."

"Then on the undercard, you have Shakur [Stevenson] versus William Zepeda, and then to top it all off you have Jaime Munguia versus [Sergiy] Derevyanchenko or even [Edgar] Berlanga."

"Then to open it up, you would 'Kid Austin' [Floyd Schofield] versus JoJo Diaz. The Super Bowl of boxing. Let's do this!"

De La Hoya wants to make 'the Super Bowl of boxing' a thing. De La Hoya would like it to happen the weekend of the Super Bowl. This year the Super Bowl will take place in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium. That sets the stage for a Saturday, February 10th fight date. That would be the day before Sunday's football game.

Now it is up to Garcia to win his upcoming fight against a power puncher. Garcia, 25-years-old, will be coming off his first career loss. Garcia was unable to get up from a body shot from Gervonta Davis. That pay-per-view was a major success recording 1.2 million buys. Duarte, 34-years-old, is looking to shock the world.
